Maja Aro – Movie/TV Stunt Coordinator

Maja Aro, stunt performer

I walked onto set of my son’s first feature film unsure of what to expect. He was cast as CJ in a film titled Playdate, opposite Alan Ritchson (Reacher), Kevin James (Paul Blart: Mall Cop, King of Queens) and Benjamin Pajak. One of the first people I saw was a striking woman with such a unique outfit. I thought for sure she’d just come off a Star Wars set!

As it turns out, it was Maja Aro, the movie’s stunt coordinator. And man, was she incredibly warm and inviting, especially as my kid had to do a ton of stunts he’d never done before.

Maja quickly made friends with my son and explained all of the stunts he’d be doing. She was gauging how willing he was to go on this adventure, and even more important, how willing I was to let

him try all of this. Needless to say, we were stoked, he did a ton of fun stunt work, and we quickly made friends with Maja and her family.

Chatting with Maja for this episode, I learned so much more about what she does as a stunt coordinator. Planning budgets, taking the writer’s vision for the various action sequences and creating the visuals to match, hiring and training the right stunt performers, dealing with insurance, schedules, weather, and on and on and on….all while maintaining a really special home life with her husband and two young sons.

Cammie Doder – Chief Marketing Officer, Aspiriant

Cammie Doder-Aspiriant-CMO

Cammie Doder is Chief Marketing Officer at Aspiriant, a wealth management firm with $15B assets under management. I met Cammie when she had just graduated from UCLA with her MBA and over the years, we’ve shared a ton of fun memories of houseboat and lake trips pre-marriage and kids.

Cammie has always struck me as a deep and thoughtful listener. She’s super focused when she’s talking to you, which is rare these days, especially in the corporate environment.

Not surprisingly, she’s brought this same skill set to her team and company, having spent 20 years overseeing marketing.

Cammie is an extreme glass-half-full inspiration. We chat about her start in marketing working for beach volleyball brands, transitioning to finance gigs, her pivot during the dot com fallout, and a chance meeting with a friend that led to her 20 year stint at Aspiriant.

There are lots of lessons discussed in this episode!

About Cammie Doder

As the Chief Marketing Officer and a partner of Aspiriant, Cammie believes the Aspiriant secret needs to be shared with more people and looks to connect with the next client whose goals we can help them achieve. Favorite quote (in full):

ATTITUDE by Charles Swindoll

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.  Attitude, to me, is more important than facts.  It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think, say or do.  It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.  It will make or break a company… a church… a home.  The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we embrace for that day.  We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way.  We cannot change the inevitable.  The only thing we can do is play the one string we have, and that is our attitude… I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.

And so it is with you… we are in charge of our Attitudes”
